A Material That Combines Hardness and Light Weight

Zinc aluminum castings are a unique product line. The ZA12 zinc aluminum alloy combines the hardness of zinc with the lighter weight of aluminum. This material is suitable for instrument housings, hardware structural parts, and mechanical components that operate at room temperature. It offers good strength and hardness. It also has excellent castability, which allows us to produce thin-walled parts. The minimum wall thickness we can achieve is 2.5 millimeters. This material is a good choice when you need a strong, lightweight part that is not subject to high temperatures.

  • Mechanical Properties and Dimensional Control

Our ZA12 castings have a tensile strength of at least 300 MPa. The Brinell hardness is at least 95 HB. The dimensional tolerance is CT7 to CT8. We strictly control defects. Hot cracking is not allowed. Gas pores cannot exceed 2 millimeters in diameter. We also prohibit dense pore clusters. One critical property is dimensional stability over time. We let our castings sit for 7 days after production. Then we measure the dimensional change. The deformation is less than 0.2 millimeters per 100 millimeters of length. This stability test helps prevent assembly problems later.

  • Temperature Limitation

There is one important limitation with zinc aluminum castings. The material is prone to creep at elevated temperatures. This means the part can slowly deform under load if it gets too hot. We recommend that the working temperature does not exceed 120°C. We tell this to all our customers before they place an order. We want to make sure the material is suitable for your application. If you need higher temperature resistance, we can discuss other alloy options.

Quality Testing in Our Lab

Our testing lab has a Leeb hardness tester and a universal testing machine. We check the hardness and tensile strength for each batch. The 7-day dimensional stability test is a special step we take for zinc aluminum castings. Many customers have told us that other suppliers' castings change size after delivery. This causes assembly issues. Our 7-day test prevents this problem. We also perform UT Level 2 inspection to control internal pores and shrinkage. Each shipment comes with a material spectral report and mechanical property data.
